Michael Lyons has been racing cars since he was 16 years old. The most astonishing thing about this, is that unlike most other racing drivers, Michael didn’t start out in karts, and his first race was in a historic F2 car! Even more amazingly his first race yielded his first win, which took place at Philip Island in Australia.
Following on from such an incredible debut, Michael has gone on to compete in a vast array of machinery both modern and historic.
In 2007, Michael was a strong competitor in the Historic Formula Ford championship, gaining a knowledge base, which led on to him winning the Novice Championship (remaining unbeaten all year) and finishing 3rd overall in the series.
In 2008 Michael competed in and won the Historic Formula Ford championship. The grounding here has given him the understanding of what is needed to win championships.
In 2009 and 2010 Michael raced in Formula Renault UK the first serious step to becoming a professional driver on the racing ladder. This class proved to be a fantastic learning environment, allowing Michael to develop his speed and engineering skills. During this time Michael scored numerous top 10′s and fastest laps.
Now into 2011, Michael is focussing his professional career on modern day sports cars while also taking part in selected historic events in both Formula 1 and sports cars. This year he is competing in British GT with the Scuderia Vittoria team. Michael took a win on his debut in sports car at Oulton Park in April.
